Hi.

I love words and the outdoors.  I spend most of my time in Long Beach, California.

Eight and counting

The men’s basketball team defeated Fisk University 76-69 at Hope International University’s gym to keep their undefeated streak alive.

Biola went into the first half quick and overpowered Fisk to take a 17 point lead within the first eight minutes of the game. The Eagles scored ten points off fast breaks in the first half alone.

The men struggled with turnovers in the first half, giving Fisk 18 out of 34 total points in the first half off turnovers alone. The Eagles made up for it by shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc compared to Fisk’s 22 percent.

Biola finished the first half with a six point lead over Fisk 40-34.

The Eagles three-point shooting average dropped drastically in the second half, shooting 20 percent. However, they improved in the paint at 54 percent. Sophomore guard Dakari Archer was the lead scorer for Biola during the half with 11 total points.

Biola’s bigs played a huge role in the night’s victory with 42 of the points coming from in the paint. Senior forward Mike Kurtz had 20 rebounds and 12 points for Biola. In addition, junior forward Grant Corsi proved a valuable asset for the Eagles with his 18 points throughout the game.

The men will play Bellevue University on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and host California State University in Dominguez Hills on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with the hopes of extending their win streak to 10 games.
