Hey Friends,

I love words and the outdoors.  I spend most of my time in Long Beach, California.

Westmont Woes

The men’s tennis team suffered two 1-8 losses before entering the Golden State Athletic Conference Championship tournament on April 15. Biola dropped to Vanguard University and lost to Westmont College the following day. Unfortunately, the Eagles could not turn things around for the championship tournament, and fell again to Westmont College 5-2.

The only win in the Vanguard match came from doubles partners sophomore Luke Mountain and freshman Phillip Westwood. Luke Mountain had a close set in his singles match, taking his opponent to 7-5 in the first set.

Freshman David Garcia took the only win in the first match against Westmont defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-1.

Garcia once again brought the sole win in singles against the Warriors 6-3 and 6-2 in the first round of GSAC Championship. Garcia and doubles partner freshman Joe Turnquist brought the only doubles win for the Eagles, taking the match 8-3.

The loss puts their overall season record at 10-13 and their GSAC record at 4-8. Despite the disappointing end to the regular season, the Eagles made improvement from last season’s record at 9-16.

The men will close out their season at the Ojai Tennis Tournament in Ojai, Calif., starting on April 23.
